We have choices to make

Thank you for your ongoing support of Christchurch City Council and the work that we do across Christchurch and Banks Peninsula.

Keeping a district our size running smoothly takes a lot of work. We could not do our job without the support of our ratepayers.

The past year has been challenging for everyone. COVID-19 has had a major impact on our lives and on our livelihoods.

It has forced many of us to re-think our plans, reassess our priorities and tighten our belts.

As an organisation we have had to do that too.

We made savings in our 2020/21 Annual Plan to both our day-to-day running costs and to our spending on new projects.

More work to do

But we have a lot more work to do to get the organisation match fit for what lies ahead.

We need a new game plan for the city – a game plan that reflects the changing world we live in and our aspirations for the future.

We need to keep rates affordable whilst supporting the city’s post COVID-19 recovery and addressing the effects of climate change.

We will be talking with you in the coming months about our work programme and priorities for the next 10 years, which we will document in our draft 2021-31 Long Term Plan.

As a city we are facing some challenges, but challenges always come with opportunities. We will need to make some choices about what we want to achieve and how we will do it.

I am really looking forward to having those conversations with you in the coming months.

Ngā mihi

Dawn Baxendale

Christchurch City Council Chief Executive
