NZAEE Seaweek

Ko au te moana, ko te moana ko au – Connecting with our seas.

Seaweek highlights the importance and diversity of life in our marine environments, and calls on Kiwis from all walks of life to look after Tangaroa’s realm.

We all contribute to taking care of our oceans for now and into the future.

Seaweek 2021 runs from Saturday 6 March to Sunday 14 March 2021.

What’s on during Seaweek?

We coordinate the calendar of events during Seaweek. Our Youth Engagement team has a number of educational resources FREE to use.

Here are some of the major events and activities in Canterbury:

Schools Seaweek Poetry Competition
The poetry competition this year is to create a poem reflecting Seaweek’s theme.

  • You can enter the poetry competition here.
  • Closing date: 14 March 2021
Needle Felting 3D Sea Creatures workshop
Sea Week is a great time to make a needle felted sea creature! Needle felting is a fun way to sculpt unspun wool into miniature 3D items. In this workshop, Elizabeth Sheid will teach you the basics of needle felting.

  • When: Sunday 14 March 2021, 1.30 pm – 4.00 pm
  • Where: WEA, 59 Gloucester St, Christchurch
  • Cost: $20.00 per participant (Registration is required for this workshop
VIRUSES IN THE SEA – the good, the bad and the vast unknown.
Head along to the WEA to listen to Paul Broady talk about the abundant and mind-boggling diverse marine viruses and the vital roles they play in the complex webs of life found from surface waters to abyssal depths and deep sediments of our oceans.

  • When: Wednesday 3 March, 7-8.30pm
  • Where: WEA, 59 Gloucester Street
