Youth engagement and education event

Please join us for a taster workshop for young people (aged 14 to 24) who are keen to explore what leadership for a better future looks, sounds and feels like.

Workshop details

When: Tuesday 7 July 2020, 5.30 – 8.00pm

Where: Environment Canterbury offices, 200 Tuam Street, Christchurch (and online)

Registrations due: Please complete this registration form by 1.00pm, Friday 3 July

Joining online: We are working on making this available online, so if you’re unable to make it to Christchurch for this workshop, please register and we will confirm closer to the time. 

What’s on the agenda

Our inspiring speakers

  • Sophie Hanford: SS4CNZ organiser and Kāpiti District Council Councillor, the youngest in the country.
  • Mark Prain: Founding Director of the Hillary Institute of International Leadership, and also the Executive Director of Untouched World’s Charitable Foundation, which focuses on developing young leaders throughout New Zealand.
  • Raquelle De Vine: Graduate of Ara Institute and recently established the South Pacific Chapter of Algalita Marine Research & Education South Pacific.
  • Mananui Ramsden: Hails from Koukourārata, his hapū is Kāti Huikai of Ngāi Tahu. He is the world’s first ever council-appointed advisor on indigenous land management and is currently Regional Leader – Pou Mātai Kō at Environment Canterbury.

A light meal

Following our speakers there will be a 30 minute break for a light meal before the breakout sessions.

Breakout sessions

Participating as facilitators of breakout sessions we have:

  • Tafflyn Bradford James: Director Communications & Engagement, Environment Canterbury 
  • Hamish Keown: Strategic Development Officer, Canterbury Youth Workers Collective

The three breakouts (subject to change) are:

  • Attributes of leadership – what you already have and what you’d like to develop
  • Innovative leadership toward sustainable development goals
  • Leadership for Canterbury – shaping our future together

Plenary session

The plenary will bring us back together with the aim of determining next steps for further leadership development or creation of an event.
