Book in the family for a trip to a massive charity book sale or a festival walk in the city or perhaps you prefer a ‘Ladies Night’ out with friends at the theatre.
Pick up a book or two – or many more – at BOOKarama 2021 at the YMCA Recreation Centre in Bishopdale.
Organised by Rotary, the three-day fundraiser, which starts at 10am on Friday, includes tens of thousands of books, along with records, DVDs and CDs and jigsaws.

The Walking Festival winds up this weekend, with several highlights, including the guided Lyttelton Antarctic Heritage walk on Saturday and an introduction to Hidden City Gems on Sunday, along with the family friendly Generation Game in Travis Wetlands Reserve. Half-price admission at Quake City
It’s the last weekend to make the most of half-price admission to Quake City in the city. Learn about the science behind earthquakes, check out the liquefaction simulator or jump on the spot to create a mini-quake for the seismograph to read.
Entry costs range from $10 for adults to $8 (students and seniors), with free entry for accompanied children aged under 15.
Ōtautahi Go Wild
Make the most of the final chance to take the kids on a wildlife treasure hunt exploring the central city.
From Tūranga and Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetū to the Botanic Gardens and Canterbury Museum, the Ōtautahi Go Wild map guides youngsters on a journey of discovery. The maps are also available at the four exploration places.
Through the Shop Window
A rare snuff jar discovery and a 19th century ‘Russian Bears Grease’ ointment pot – on show at Tūranga – come from the site of the new Te Pae Convention Centre.
They are among the fascinating finds on display in a new exhibition that reveals the colonial consumer culture in 1860s Christchurch. Through the Shop Window is on Level 2 of Tūranga until 30 June.
