247mm of rain fell during the first six hours of the late July rainfall event, which caused many slopes throughout the region to slip, bringing mud, trees and other debris onto roads.
Over the two rain days (22 and 23 July), there were times when rainfall was consistently greater than 170mm, with times when it exceeded 270mm.
“Our teams have been out and about working to clear these slips, and will continue to do so over the next two weeks,” says Manager City Streets Maintenance Steve Guy.
“During this period there may be multiple road closures, and some sites may require return visits if more slip material falls.
“Our contractors are working as hard and fast as they can to clear the area. Please be patient and bear with us.”
Please be aware that these road closures may affect travel time throughout the peninsula. Find a full road closure list here.
