Pilot project to address dust issues in the McLeans Island area
We are undertaking a pilot project focused on gathering better information and data about dust levels in the McLeans Island area.
The aim of the March pilot is to better understand the community’s experience of dust, collect data from a variety of sources, and ultimately help reduce resident’s exposure to dust and improve their quality of life.
Seen dust? Report it!
From 1 to 31 March, residents and visitors to the McLeans Island area are asked to log any noticeable dust in the area by using the web-based reporting tool (or by phoning 0800 765 588).
We are encouraging as many people as possible to use the app – the more people that use it, the more we can respond effectively with the data we collect. As part of the pilot, we have also:
- Installed two dust monitors to record background dust levels, wind direction and speed.
- Placed two dedicated staff in the area to work proactively with the community and respond to any issues raised.
Zone delivery lead Christchurch West Melton Zone Johannes Welsch said that dust is a concern for residents in the McLeans Island area.
“The aim of this pilot project is to identify where the major source of dust in the area originates and the impact this has on the surrounding community.”
“After March, the results of the pilot will be analysed and reviewed, with the findings reported back to the community.”
We will be providing updates on this page throughout the pilot.
