Hagley Park will play host to the biggest New Year’s Eve party in town, with a full line-up of family entertainment ahead of a huge midnight fireworks display.
The Council’s NYE22 line-up will feature locals 1 Drop Nation, a six-piece band who will be taking to the stage to perform their unique blend of roots, rock, funk and reggae.
Singer Kanei Johnson describes the band’s music as “a feel good sound that is easy listening and gives you a sense of being connected to your roots.”
“You can expect a big show from the band, with new tracks being played live for the first time. We can’t wait to celebrate New Year’s Eve with our Christchurch whanau,” says Mr Johnson.
The band are set to perform tracks from their self-titled debut album, set for release on 1 December.
“Christchurch is our home and we are proud of that, so every time we are lucky enough to be on stage and perform, we want to bring our A-game and put on a massive show,” says Mr Johnson.
The free event will be headlined by international act, Dragon, who are known for decades of chart topping hits like April Sun in Cuba, Are You Old Enough?, Rain and Young Years.
The evening will get underway with a range of family entertainment, including celebrated kids’ performer Music with Michal and rising local star Sam Heselwood, who has amassed over half a million streams on Spotify.
The evening will also include a mock New Year’s countdown for kids.
A large range of food trucks will be available at the event. NYE22 is a smoke, vape-free and alcohol-free event.
