Taiohi ngahua – Youth Dance Party
Get your boogie on at Tūranga on Friday evening at Taiohi ngahau Youth Dance Party! DJ Danny ill will be laying down the beats of some old school and new school waiata (songs).
There are plenty of spot prizes to be won, so grab your friends and whānau (family) and bust out some of your best moves. All are welcome to this free event, kicking off at 5pm.
Mystery movie
Nau mai tauti mai rā e te whānau – join us as we journey alongside a young girl and her pets Heihei and Poa as they leave their home island to sail across the sea to return a stolen gem to its owner. Can you guess what this movie is?
Head over to Tūranga from 1pm – 3pm on Saturday to watch this free te reo mystery movie. Make sure you bring your snacks for this one e te whānau!
Kiriata (movie) – Whale Rider
Can’t make it to Tūranga’s mystery movie on Saturday? Come along at 1pm on Sunday instead! Based on the 1987 novel The Whale Rider by Witi Ihimaera, the film follows the story of Paikea Apirana and her koro (grandfather) to a place where traditional and modern thinking meet.
Bring your snacks and join us. This kaupapa is free, PG13 rating please be advised.
Mā Te Wā
Come along to a performance at Little Andromeda on Friday and Saturday evening, Mā Te Wā. A wahine toa (warrior woman) with an axe, a grumpy Pākehā pushbike posty and a Māori artist walk into an Empty Space. But why did the Pīwaiwaka, and what are The Towers of Babel, if not ironic?

Ngā takaro – Tītī tōrea making
Nau mai hoki mai – join us as we celebrate te wiki o te reo Māori by giving life to the whakataukī (Māori proverb), ‘He rau ringa e oti ai. With many hands, the job will be finished.’
Travel back in time and learn how to make tītī tōrea (traditional Maori stick game) and find out how they were used to help strengthen our hand eye co-ordination. This free activity will begin at 3:30pm Friday at He Hononga, Tūranga (big table)
