Framing removal work almost complete

The front of Christ Church Cathedral can now be clearly seen following the recent removal of steel framing.

Steel framing has largely obscured the view of the front of the Cathedral since the 2011 earthquakes, but it has now nearly all been removed.

Work to remove the steel framing from the front of the Cathedral, began in mid January and is largely completed. A small amount of framing at ground level will remain in place as it may be used in future work. A brace was added to the gable end and wall ends have been tied back.

The two cranes that have been instrumental in the removal work will leave the site in the next week or so.

Meanwhile, the stonemasons cataloguing recovered material from the roof of the Cathedral’s western porch are also in the final stages of their work.

Christ Church Cathedral Reinstatement Limited is working on the delivery plan for the reinstatement of the Cathedral building, including looking at options to stabilise the Cathedral to enable a full and safe damage investigation.
