Illuminate Botanics

The Illuminate Light Show will transform the Botanic Gardens with a dazzling display of lighting and sound installations this weekend! With food trucks on site, interactive features and entertainment, this is guaranteed to be an event to remember for the whole family.

Gates open 5.45pm to 9.30pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. Tickets cost $12 per person, with discounted group deals available.

Heritage Stargazing from the Observatory Tower

View the southern sky through the Victorian-era Townsend Teece Telescope at Te Matatiki Toi Ora The Arts Centre! Under the guidance of Townsend Observer astronomers from the University of Canterbury, you’ll be able to view the moon, planets and star clusters, including the stunningly colourful Jewel Box star cluster.

30-minute tours of the Observatory Tower and stargazing through the telescope will be available every Friday evening from $5. Find more information here.

Welcoming Port Hills Planting Day

Help restore local green spaces and meet like-minded people! Mobile Health Group and Trees for Canterbury have sponsored 1000 trees to be planted in the Port Hills red zone this Saturday morning, and they’d welcome your help to plant them!

This event takes place in the tranquil Heathcote Valley and is part of Welcoming Week New Zealand – Te Wiki o Manaaki Aotearoa. Make your way to 186 Bridle Path Road from 10am – 12pm Saturday.

Ride the Peace Train

Ride the Peace Train for free at the Botanic Gardens on Sunday at 10am. Meet in front of the Peacock Fountain on Rolleston Avenue. This is a great way to see the beautiful Botanic Gardens and to celebrate our diverse communities as part of Welcoming Week New Zealand.

Love Tennis

Tennis clubs all over Christchurch will be open on Sunday from 10am – 2pm for Tennis NZ’s annual Love Tennis event. Come along and have a go for free! It’s easy to learn, cheap to play and fun for all ages. Clubs like Burnside Park Tennis Club will provide racquets, activities, mini-games, giveaways and more.

Visit the Love Tennis website to find a club near you.

Vintage Market

Enjoy a wander around the stalls on the front lawn of beautiful Avebury House in Richmond at the Vintage Market Avebury House, from 10am – 2pm on Sunday. Browse through records, clothing, antiques, bric-a-brac, china, jewellery, furniture and more. You never know what you might find!
