Hilltop Planting Day

Join Christchurch City Council rangers in conjunction with the Wairewa Rūnanga to maintain native forest across the unique and stunning Banks Peninsula at the Hilltop Planting Day.

Help local plants and wildlife flourish at a habitat restoration planting day at Harmans Park from 10am on Sunday 20 August.

Dive-In Movie Night – Disney’s Moana

Enjoy an enchanted screening of the beloved Disney masterpiece, ‘Moana,’ on the big screen right by the pool at Graham Condon! Embark on a thrilling voyage with Moana, as she sets sail on a daring journey to save her island and discover her true destiny. 

Tamariki (children) can splash, swim and enjoy the movie this Saturday at 5:30pm. Standard pool entry fee applies, more information here. 

Poi workshop: with Savanah Tukariri and Kerepeti Paraone

This Saturday, Savanah Tukariri and Kerepeti Paraone will be leading a free-to-attend poi workshop at the Maker Workshop at Te Matatiki Toi Ora Art Centre! The workshop will include poi making, learning poi moement, materials and a light kai. 

Savanah is a multi-passionate māori creative, with 20+ years’ experience in Kapa Haka which she uses as the foundations of her art. Through her work, Savanah has collaborated with CSO, The Court Theatre and presented at Tiny Fest 2023. Kerepeti is the founder of māori production company, Kororātahi Creative, and is a kaihaka, filmmaker, musician and composer. His works span across almost a decade of collaborations with The Court Theatre, CSO, TinyFest, Te Ahikaaroa Kapa Haka, and Mahi Mahi Productions. The workshop will be held at 1pm at The Arts Centre, more here. 

The Sumner Art Society Cash and Carry Exhibition

Make your way to Mount Pleasant Yacht Club this weekend for Sumner Art Society’s annual exhibition featuring thirty artists who create paintings in a wide variety of styles – including watercolour, ink, acrylic or oil paint as well as the techniques of pouring and collage.

Buy an original work, win one from a raffle and enjoy the vista! The exhibition will be on from 10am – 5pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Family History Expo

This weekend, Christchurch City Libraries is hosting three days of family history fun! There will be workshops and introductory sessions on Friday, speakers days including a conversation with Deputy Mayor Pauline Cotter on Saturday, and a family fun day with a variety of self-guided activities on Sunday!

These free sessions will be taking place at Tūranga, and bookings are necessary for some events. Find out more here.

Take Action for Nature – Crafts and Hīkoi

Grab your tamariki (children) and come and join your local DOC rangers in collaboration with Christchurch Envirohub to celebrate Conservation Week 2023 and take action for nature!

Create a nature journal, explore the Botanic Gardens, learn about our local native plants and enjoy a morning of crafting! This event is suitable for ages 5+ and all children must be accompanied by an adult. The free session will take place on Saturday from 10am – 12:30pm at Christchurch Enviro Hub. The Vocal Collective

Originally known as the ‘Pops Choir,’ and under the directorship of Richard Marrett, The Vocal Collective perform a wide range of repertoire – pop, rock, jazz, musical theatre, soul and swing.

This Sunday afternoon, the group will be performing as part of the Great Hall Lunchtime Concert Series 2023 showcasing a remarkable line-up of renowned local, national and international artists performing in a beautiful heritage venue. Grab a ticket from $5 here.

Crafting for Wellbeing – Pom Pom Bears at Tūranga

Enjoy some ‘me time and foster your creativity. At Crafting for Wellbeing, a different craft each month will be explored including origami, card making, picture frames, macrame, crochet and more. 

Come along to Tūranga to make pom pom bears this Saturday from 1:30pm – 3pm. This is a free session and materials will be provided.
