Following you on Twitter. Just wanted to say I’m a huge fan of NZ and I love your country. I spent 5 months in Dunedin in 1997 and fell in love. I studied aboard in at the University of Otago. Drove all over the South Island and was able to see the majority of the North Island. I’ll return and when I do I’ll make sure to look you. Good luck selling.

If you ever make it to the State, SC in particular make sure to look me up. Send me any clients you might have that are interested in buying real estate on Kiawah Island, the #1 golf resort on the East Coast in America.

    Cheers,
    Christian

    Deon,
Thanks for the tutorial on Movie Making.
I had a lot of fun making a small movie for one of my listings.
I’m sure I’ll get better at it. Very good idea.

I agree with you 100% – things happen for a reason. I found this by accident and noticed that we have some things in common. Thats what I love about the Internet, every blog is like a box of chocolates :) Thanks – Great blog.

I agree with you 99% but wonder if you have really looked at the whole picture. DOn’t mean to be critical just food for thought.

Awesome info! I was honestly just thinking about something similar to this the other day so, it was almost “weird” when I ran across this. You would be surprised how many people simply have no idea when it comes to this kind of stuff. Anyway, thanks for getting this info out there and I’m sure I’m not the only one who appreciates you taking the time to post this for the masses.

    Hi Deon,
just been reading your page – “Posts Tagged ‘sale and purchase’” and have found it quite interesting.

I do have one issue with the information about private sales though. As a private seller in Christchurch, I resent the myths that are propagated by the industry to protect their market. Private sales do not have to be more difficult and the sellers are not generally being greedy – the opposite in fact. Often they just resent paying ridiculous amounts to real estate agents and want to pass on some of the saving to the purchaser. Although there will always be people who have unrealistic price expectations, it is simply not the case that this is more common with private sellers.

As a migrant to the country, it seems obscene the commission that agents charge and I think that both vendors and sellers would be better off with more private sales.

  19. swiggs says:

    Hi Graeme,

I do agree with what you have said.
The problem I see is private sellers are at a step behind as most of the places where people who are buying look they will not allow private listings.

To a buyer it usually doesnt make much difference who they buy off as long as they get value for money. That is why the age of the agent will never go away.
